Content Migration: Low-Touch vs High Touch
We know that the content migration process can be intimidating, so we have created this simple guide to help you understand your options when it comes to our services.
The Migration Process
Most of our customers work in a service-oriented position within a local government, so it may not be feasible for them to juggle updating their website and performing their regular duties.
Thankfully, CivicPlus has a team of usability experts standing by to help you update your website and ensure that all of your content has been brought over to your new web address.
Because moving your web pages is a manual process, this is a perfect opportunity to trust the experts in our Content Department to make revisions and changes to improve the usability, accessibility, and engagement of your website.
Essentially, you have two options when it comes to how you would like us to migrate your pictures and text, we call them “low-touch” and “high-touch”.
So, what is the difference between a low-touch and high-touch content experience?
A low-touch content migration means that our team will work diligently to transfer your pictures and text to your new website without making a lot of changes. Choosing the low-touch option means that your pages and navigation will remain essentially the same.
We will still edit for spelling and grammar, moving contact information to the feature column on the right-hand side of your new pages, and leaving suggestions for optional improvements that will help you update the content on your own after you have been through training.
Think of the low-touch option as a home moving service. We will carefully pack up, move, and unpack your stuff so that it is pretty much where it was in your old home.
This is a good choice if the idea of changing your navigation or pages isn’t what you are looking for.
Using the moving analogy again, the high-touch experience is a lot like hiring an interior decorator.
If you choose this option, our usability experts will still pack up and move all of your content; but they will also help you redecorate your pages to make them more attractive, accessible, and usable for your citizens.
If you choose the high-touch content migration process, we will optimize your navigation to make it more intuitive for your users. Changes of this type usually include breaking up pages that are too long into smaller, more digestible chunks or rethinking the way the information is being displayed.
We will reorder the paragraphs on some of your pages to make the important stuff stand out more to your citizens, and we will maximize the use of your new CivicPlus modules. This usually includes converting PDF forms so that they can be completed online, pulling out FAQs into their own special area, and ensuring that your information is displayed in the most accessible way for mobile users.
Additionally, we will make any changes that we can to ensure that your content is compliant, pulling text out of images and rewriting document names and image alt text to work with screen readers.
This option is perfect if what you are looking for a complete overhaul of your website’s content so that it is truly the best it can be for your citizens.
